Summary The story begins with Blaze — a weapon that is the manifestation of a human’s soul. Tooru Kokonoe happens to be qualified for this, but for some reason his Blaze is not a weapon, but a shield. Moreover, he enrolled in a school that teaches combat skills, and thanks to the school’s Duo partner system, he ends up living with a beautiful silver-haired girl.
Sid I feel that it’s save to say the “romance” in Absolute Duo really means harem. I refuse to believe there at that many pretty girls and one guy to actually create a legitimate love story. I’ll give this one episode before making my decision.
Hikaru Doesn’t the story of a character who has a different power than everyone else seem cliche already? And yet, I decided to give fantasy light novel Absolute Duo a try prior to the airing of its anime. Lo and behold, the story and even its main character look like a different variant of Infinite Stratos. Absolute Duo has the inklings of a harem with an MC who is indifferent (or at least tries to be) against advances (intentional or not) of the opposite gender. I might still give the anime a few episodes try to see its execution but there is a high chance of me dropping this sooner or later.
Chidori3souske The premise seems interesting but base from the 2nd PV there would definitely be a lot of fanservice so that’s reason number 1 to pass. Add the fact that the director-san (Nakayama, Atsushi) is a newbie director with a few shows under his helm and the one behind the series composition (Kouno, Takamitsu) is also in the same position, I’m not expecting much from them so that’s reason number 2 to pass. Then looking at that underwhelming animation in the 2nd PV what more can we expect in the middle of it’s run? There ya go 3 reasons why I’m passing on this one.
Summary Second season of Aldnoah.Zero.
Sid I was pulled into by the Aldnoah.Zero craze so you’ll bet that I’ll be watching this season. I’m excited to see how everything wraps up. I feel like there is still a heavily political story line that could unravel and really push this anime toward the top. Of course it does have a potential to fail as well, but I rather be a half glass full kind of guy.
Hikaru First season’s “Bat” is promoted from being a side character to a main one as the key visual and first PV focused on Slaine Troyard. Princess Asseylum also makes an appearance belying the earlier assumption of her death at the end of the previous season. So what else is in store for us? The war between Verse Empire and the United Earth Forces continues.
Chidori3souske I guess everyone who watched the 1st season sure are surprised as me when we all watched the last episode. Now, it seems like they are really hinting that Inaho and Seylum-hime is alive but if that’s true people would be tired of that ‘kill the princess’ shock factor so I hope they’ll get over that. Just like what Sid said above I also hope they’ll delve into the political storyline but of course I hope they’ll top that off with awesome mecha fight scenes. Oh and did you guys saw the PV? OMG looks like we’ll be having cool space battles in this season. I don’t know where do this 2nd season would lead us but still I’m willing to ride this crazy train till the end.
Summary The students of class 3-E have a mission: kill their teacher before graduation. He has already destroyed the moon, and has promised to destroy the Earth if he can not be killed within a year. But how can this class of misfits kill a tentacle monster, capable of reaching Mach 20 speed, who may be the best teacher any of them have ever had?
Sid I have to say the summary is kind of a strange one, but I’m excited to see what it becomes. A solid action comedy could be exactly what this season needs. After grabbing some PVs from around YouTube I’m pleasantly surprised with the direction it seems to be taking. A not-so-serious-kind-of-serious anime can be really fun to watch. I’ll give this a solid three or four episodes to start.
Hikaru One of 2013’s best selling manga in Japan finally gets an anime! This may be a good reason to at least give it a few episodes try.
Chidori3souske Oho~ the premise looks fun and unique! Looking at the director’s (Kishi, Seiji ) track record, the shows he’d directed have been a hit and miss. I loved his work on Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova, Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru and even Angel Beats! but his other videogame to anime adaptation was a miss for me. As for the script writer, Uezu, Makoto, seems like he’s the right guy for this cause he had been behind Akame ga Kill! to Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? to School Days and to my surprise Seto no Hanayome. What a range, from psychological, action, comedy he had done it! I think this show is in good hands. I’ll be following this one.
Summary The story centers on the five students in the Boeibu/Defense Club (aka “a club to do nothing”) at the Binan High School. Involving the battle between the two mysterious creatures came from the outer space, they have to fight against Seifukubu/Conquest Club (Student Council), as the successors to the throne “Battle Lovers.”
Sid I think I’m going to give this one a pass. Honestly nothing about it seems to be in my best interest, and quite honestly the pink… goffer, koala thing (?) kind of creeps me out.
Hikaru I didn’t think that there will come a day when “magical boys” genre will be born until I saw this. 2 PVs in and I regret having clicked the play button! I’m fine with swimming moe boys or singing bishounens but you cannot simply recreate Sailor Moon by turning all the MCs into boys instead.
Chidori3souske GOD MY OH what the hell did I watch?! I never thought there would come a day where magical boys would be born. Sorry but I prefer magical girls. Pass!!!
Summary “Welcome to Queen Dekim” What greets two unsuspecting guests is a strange bar, Queen Dekim, and the white-haired bartender, Dekim. “From here you two shall begin a battle where your lives hang in the balance,” he says to introduce the Death Game. Before long the guests’ true natures become apparent. As a matter of course, at the game’s end Dekim is revealed to be the “arbiter.” Dekim’s judgement on the two guests is…
Sid The trailer made me really excited for this anime. It looks to have some great animation (as expected from MADHOUSE) and an interesting plot, “the guests’ true natures become apparent”. Unless the series is a complete flop in the first few episodes I’m definitely keeping this one on watch.
Hikaru A game to the death will undoubtedly reveal the ugly and dark side of humans. If this is what you want to see, then Death Parade might be right up your alley. It’s a pass for me though.
Chidori3souske SUGEEEEE!!! That’s why series looks familiar this was based from the Anime Mirai 2012 short Death Billiards. I remember I was blown away with that short. This was my favorite aside from Little Witch Academia (movie). A game that would determine your fate whether you’ll go to heaven or hell, a game that would bring out the true nature of the participants. Holy sheez I’m so hyped! I hope MADHOUSE would mess up my mind on this one. Here’s to hoping it’ll be one good psychological thriller! Will definnitely follow this one.
Summary Third season of Dog Days. It takes place two to three months after the second season during fall vacation.
Sid I didn’t watch the second season because I didn’t expect there to be more story, and now I’m even more surprised to see a third. Pass.
Hikaru Had the chance to see the previous two seasons earlier this year. A light-hearted adventure awaits our main characters as they return to a world of magic.}
Chidori3souske I’ve actually watched the 1st season of this series and found it so-so that’s why I passed on the 2nd season as I also pass on this one.
Summary A second season of Durarara!! is in the works. The story takes place a half year after the first series at Tokyo’s Ikebukuro neighborhood.
Sid How could I not watch this? I absolutely loved Durarara!! in every way and consider it one of the best anime ever created. I’m not sure what the second season will have in store for us, but I’m very excited to find out with all of you!
Hikaru Enjoyed the unique characters and plot and would love to see this second season.
Chidori3souske Oh I’m the only one fom the gang who haven’t watched the 1st season of this. I’ll pass on this one till I had the chance to marathon the 1st season.
Genre: Action, Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
Release Date: Jan 24, 2015
Animation Production: Arms
Summary Shinichirou decides to look for a job in order to pay his rent, and his teacher suggests that he work for someone at their house, doing housekeeping. However, the person who hired him was Sakuya, a girl who is the 37th head of the Shimazu family, and her job is to exorcise and eliminate unwanted creatures. Shinichirou accidentally releases one of the creatures that Sakuya captures and they cooperate to catch it. A story of comedic creature hunting begins!
Sid I’m walking into this anime hoping for some good comedy. It might not hurt to add in a touch of romance though. I can’t really give much without a proper watch so I’ll give this a couple episodes this season.
Hikaru I need a good dose of fantasy and some romance would be nice too. Will give this a try.
Chidori3souske The last ARMS series I watched was Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil and with its cringe worthy animation productionin its last episode, it had left me traumatized. The premise seems interesting enough but with ARMS at its helm I guess it’ll be full of fanservice and add the fact that the director (Iwanaga, Akira ) and scrpt writer’s (Suzuki, Masashi ) track records are not that good, I guess I’ll pass on this one.
Summary The continuation will adapt the Egyptian phase of the battle against Dio.
Hikaru That’s a pass for me too.
Chidori3souske Been wanting to pick up the JoJo series because of lots of positive reviews but I did not have the time. So I’ll pass on this one.
Summary The story follows Maria, the most powerful witch who lives during the Hundred Years’ War in France. She despises war, so she obstructs battles with her strong magical powers. Her meddling with her succubus Artemis and incubus Priapos has caught the attention of the heavens, and so the Archangel Michael issues an edict. When Maria loses her virginity, she will also lose her magical powers. A beautiful angel named Ezekiel is supposed to watch Maria and make sure the witch does not use magic in front of people, but Maria continues to use magic anyways.
Sid So the PV had some beautiful soundtrack, but then I noticed the outfits, the ecchi, and the whole “when Maria loses her virginity” thing. I’ll give this one one episode, if that.
Hikaru Looks like a battle against dragons and probably the heavens too. The serene BGM does not match the animation though. I’m not fond of the character designs or the plot so that’s a pass.
Chidori3souske Really? A Production I.G. with lots of ecchiness. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this is the first. The premise really caught my attention alright but I hope this show’s focus won’t be on the fanservice. I’d really want to give this series a shot even if I have to watch this secretly. Btw that BGM used in the PV was amazing, I hope the rest of the OST would be good too.
Juuou Mujin no Fafnir
Genre: Fantasy, Romance
Release Date: Jan 9, 2015
Animation Production: Diomedea
Summary In the “unlimited school battle action” story, the world was transformed by the sudden appearance of monsters known collectively as dragons. Before long, girls known as “D” were born with the dragons’ powers. A boy named Yuu Mononobe is the world’s only male “D,” although his existence is kept secret. He is forced to enroll into Midgar, a school for “D” girls, where he see a female student Iris naked. Moreover, he is reunited with his long-separated little sister Mitsuki.
Sid Nope, pass. Just pass. So much passing.
Hikaru The plot sounds like another Infinite Stratos to me. Pass.
Chidori3souske Mediocre premise with lots of promise of fanservice. Pass
Summary Season two of Kamisama Hajimemashita.
Sid Didn’t see the first season though admittedly it doesn’t look bad. Should I go back and give the first season a shot?
Hikaru Didn’t enjoy the previous season as much but it wouldn’t hurt to see more of Tomoe.
Chidori3souske I enjoyed the first season but I admit I enjoyed the manga more. I’ll watch this series.
Summary The base for the fleet arrayed against the “deep sea fleet” is Chinjufu. There, many various Kan-musume have gathered to live together and work hard everyday in training and other matters. One day, a Kan-musume arrives at Chinjufu, She is a special class of destroyer. Her name is Fubuki. “I am Fubuki! Nice to meet you!” Fubuki’s story — as well as the Kan-musume’s story — begins now.
Sid A rather simple and sweet story it seems from the PV and summary. I don’t think it’s going to be another Strike Witches though the similarities are apparent. I’ll give this an episode or two to see if it can peak my interest. Though it seems like a moe anime that’s a bit out of my liking range.
Hikaru A pass for now.
Chidori3souske Seriously I think Diomedea shows have invaded the winter season. Anyways, this show is based from the very popular online card game so I honestly not expecting much from this. Though, if this would have the same spirit of Girls und Panzer but this time instead of tanks it’ll be warships then I’d be willing to take the plunge in this dark and murky waters. Will try a couple of episodes.
Summary The story follows Ryou, a middle school girl who lives by herself. She has a knack for cooking, and she makes friendships with everyone through her food. The cooking manga is “full of detailed cuisine art to whet the appetite and slightly erotic meal scenes.” The “koufuku” in the title is a wordplay on two Japanese homonyms — one which means “happiness,” and another that means “appetite.”
Sid Damn me and my SHAFT fanboy-ness. Find Koufuku Graffiti I’ll give you a solid try if I HAVE to. Damn you Mozart and you brilliant sounds during the trailer. I don’t know what erotic meal scenes there are going to be, but I sure as heck hope I don’t have to watch this in secret before deciding to keep it or not.
Hikaru Trying to get ahead of next season’s Shokugeki no Soma are we? Will try to watch this.
Chidori3souske Now it’s cute girls who are doing the cooking. Gone are the days of Cooking Master Boy and Yakitate!! Japan, the new era of cooking anime is here! Since this is a SHAFT production, I will definitely watch this series!
Kuroko no Basket 3
Genre: Comedy, Sports
Release Date: Jan 11, 2015
Animation Production: Production I.G.
Summary Season three of Kuroko no Basket
Sid Yes, yes and more yes. I got sucked into the Kuroko no Basket feels and have been hoping for more. Curse you HappiLeeErin and your persuasiveness.
Hikaru The wait is finally over! With the conclusion of the manga (and the Winter Cup itself) earlier this year, I am definitely looking forward to one of my favorite sports anime! I’m doing my best to not spoil anything so just watch it!
Chidori3souske Gosh I still wasn’t able to watch season 2! Damn gotta find time to marathon season 2. A pass for now.
Summary Rolling, falling, scrambling girls. For others. For themselves. Even if they’re destined to be a “mob.”
It’s been 10 years since the “Tokyo Great Decisive Battle.” A Japan where all the prefectures have become independent countries. A not-so-ordinary story about ordinary girls, according to ordinary girls. Ordinary will save the Earth!?
Sid I have absolutely no idea what this anime is about but I want to watch it. I have a feeling I may enjoy a little slice of life this season.
Hikaru I’m not really into moe girls. Pass.
Chidori3souske Holy sheez seems like the studio behind Shingeki no Kyoujin is ready to go crazy on their new original series. Well damn that 2nd PV was so random and crazy that it hooked me. The animation style reminds me a lot of Studio Trigger’s Kill la Kill that complements well with the crazy premise. Seems like I’ll be having lots of fun with this series so I’m very excited for this series.
Summary The life of Tomoyo Aki, a highschool otaku working part time to support his BD hording. With remarkable luck, he bumps head-first into, Megumi Kato, the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Naturally, the meeting twists his life into a complicated torrent of relationships. Eriri Spencer Sawamura, his half-foreigner childhood friend who’s always valued her relationship with MC. Kasumigaoka Utaha, a cold, composed renowned literary genius who shoves everyone aside from our protagonist. What is this? An eroge introduction? The tale of a small not quite doujin circle, but not quite indie studio’s journey through the tough territory of comiket and beyond.
Sid I can’t say I completely know what this series is meant for, but I do know it isn’t meant for me. Pass.
Hikaru So it’s an anime adaptation of a manga about making manga for comiket? Pass.
Chidori3souske The english translation of this series is: How to raise a boring girlfriend. I know crazy title right? Actually the light novel illustrations have lured me into watching the first few episodes of this series, it’s just too gorgeous. I got the feeling this will be one awesome if not decent rom-com serving this season.
Seiken Tsukai no World Break
Genre: Action, Fantasy
Release Date: Jan 12, 2015
Animation Production: Diomedea
Summary The story is set in a private high school that brings together “saviors,” youths with awakened memories from past lives. Some of them are Shirogane who fight enemies with weapons and techniques gleaned from the Puraana powers from their own bodies. Others are Kuroma who wipe out enemies, with magic to manipulate the Maana powers that surpass physics. A boy named Moroha Haimura enrolls in this school. He is the first person in history with past lives of both Shirogane and Kuroma.
Sid This actually sounds pretty neat. I’m going to give this one a solid watch before making my decision, but I’m leaning toward giving it a go the whole season.
Hikaru I’m always fascinated by stories of past meet present. While I sense that we’ll see a harem here, I’m fairly interested in plot of this light novel adaptation. That’s a check on my watch list.
Chidori3souske The premise seems decent and looking at the director (Inagaki, Takayuki) and the one behind the series composition (Yamaguchi, Hiroshi) both of their works are mediocre so I’m expecting alot of mediocrity in this one. I’ll pass on this one.
Release Date: Jan 12, 2015
Animation Production: Tezuka Productions
Summary Toyotomi Hideyoshi is on the verge of unifying the realm, and all that remains is the Odawara Castle protected by the “Lion of Sagami” Ujiyasu Houjou. Amidst the battle formation are the two young warriors of the Sanada household: older brother Nobuyuki and younger brother Yukimura. As the stalemate begins to break down, Sanada Yukimura rides on a lone horse into the fray. His brother follows him right after.
Sid Hmm another action anime with powerful generals? Sure why not, may have some good animation.
Chidori3souske The summary didn’t really interest me and this one is also a game to anime adaptation so I’ll pass on this one.
Summary “Hey, you said you wanted a sister, right?” First year highschool student, Toujo Basara, was suddenly asked by his father and fell into a state of panic. On top of that, the eccentric father told him he will be getting remarried. He then departed overseas after bringing Basara two beautiful step-sisters. But Mio and Maria’s true forms are actually the newbie Demon Lord and a succubus!? Basara was almost entered into a master and servant contract with Mio, but a “reversed” contract was formed by mistake, and Basara is now the master!? Moreover, Basara is being hit by ecchi situation one after another due to the contract, but Mio’s life is being pursued by other demon tribes and hero tribes!! The most powerful contractor’s desire action drama begins!
Sid I was all for it till the “ecchi situations” part. Gotta love those incest-but-not-quite-incest loopholes anime likes to throw out eh? Pass.
Chidori3souske Another ecchi harem series and that poor animation production, Pass.

However, someone starts stealing the idols’ songs in Yokohama. When super idol Marine Amagi’s hit song “Kiseki no Uta” (Miracle’s Song) is stolen, she enlists the detectives of Milky Holmes.
Sid Man this is still going huh? Pass.
Chidori3souskeWhat?! This is still alive?! Pass
Summary The official website for the The IDOLM@STER franchise announced that a TV anime adaptation of The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls mobile game has been green-lit, and will premiere in January 2015.
Sid I’ll have to at least give this one a shot since I enjoyed the original IDOLM@STER so much. Hopefully this can live up to that.
Hikaru Didn’t see any earlier version of this franchise. Pass.
Chidori3souske I totally enjoyed IM@S so yes I’m going to pick this one up. I love watching idols work hard to achieve their dreams it’s quite inspiring.
Tokyo Ghoul √A
Genre: Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural
Release Date: Jan 9, 2015
Animation Production: Studio Pierrot
Summary The second season of Tokyo Ghoul.
Sid Hell yes I’m going to be watching this. It was finally getting badass toward the end and I’d be crazy to pass it up.
Hikaru Another top selling shounen manga in Japan continues to its much-awaited second season.
Chidori3souske Oh bishounen Kaneki is in the house! Finally I’ve been waiting for ya! Another series I’m looking forward to.

The Doronbo fight with Yattermen, and within the fray, the team is banished to a remote land. This is the story of a new generation of Doronbos. Doronjo, Boyacky, and Tonzura, as well as the story of the birth of Gan-chan and Ai-chan as Yattermen.
Sid This actually sounds really different from the anime out this season. I really hope that it turns out as good as it sounds. Going to tag this as a watch for the season.
Chidori3souske Just like what Sid said this series really stand out in terms of its unique premise. I’ll try a couple of episodes.
Summary The “intellectual fantasy” follows Kureha, a “transparent” high school girl who is plain and is barely noticed by others. Seemingly every night, she has a “dream about a bear and a transparent storm.” In this dream, her mysterious classmate Ginko Yurishiro appears in the form of a bear.
Sid The summary actually sounds kind of interesting, though the PV kind of turned me off. I’m going to give this a couple episodes to see how this goes.
Hikaru I cannot understand whether the story is serious or just moe. Pass.
Chidori3souske What’s up with the retro looking character design that bother me with the 1st PV. Ah that’s why the style seems familiar it’s because the director is Ikuhara, Kunihiko the person behind Mawaru Penguindrum and Shoujo Kakumei Utena. Also that explains the yuri tone of this series. I love this person’s work because it’s thought provoking and left me speechless every damn time his series ends. I will watch this series.
Release Date: Jan 5, 2015
