Blood Lad
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 8.5/10

His first meeting with a human girl made his heart skip a beat. However, on the very same day, he loses her and Fuyumi becomes a ghost. East territory boss and vampire Staz vows to bring Fuyumi back to life but what could he be planning after? And did we mention Staz is an otaku?

Blood Lad easily fills my comic fantasy fix after Hataraku Maou-sama ended last season. And to top it off is having the same seiyuu for the lead characters Maou Sadao and Staz! I’ve got high hopes for Ryota Ohsaka and this series. I might try reading the manga soon too.

Brother’s Conflict

Episodes Seen: 4 (Dropped)
Rating: 6.0/10

And here we have another reverse harem from Brains Base. Having 13 brothers when her father remarried, the heroine is surely fresh meat thrown into a pack of wolves. Bland characters and design plus the absurd premise forced me to drop this.

Danganronpan: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei – The Animation

Episodes Seen: 3 (Dropped)
Rating: 6.0/10

15 students were selected to enter the prestigious Hope Academy. However, as soon as they stepped in the school grounds, there was no turning back when its principal Monobear reveals that they could only graduate when they kill someone and get away with it.

Another survival of the fittest story but rather disappointing after seeing how the first murder was solved. The characters cannot be sympathized with either. Second title dropped this season.

Fantasista Doll
Episodes Seen: 3 (Dropped)
Rating: 6.5/10

Of card games and magical fighting girls. This looks like a combination of Yu Gi Oh and Angelic Layer. A mediocre title for the younger female audience.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Ilya
Episodes Seen: 4
Rating: 7.0/10

Set in an alternate world where magical girls collect the servant cards. Even the character designs were toned down to fit the genre. An interesting break from the intensity and depth of the previous Fate installations. Choucho’s OP theme starlog is one of my favorites this season.

Free!
Episodes Seen: 4
Rating: 7.5/10

At its best when it focuses on the swimming. But this is undeniably, for the most part, fanservice for girls. Still, I’m in it for the swimming and a little of the muscle. Having a single female character portray the fandom was a nice touch. The ED theme Splash Free by StyleFive is the best in my book forĀ  this season.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou

Episodes Seen: 4
Rating: 8.0/10

True to itself from the very first episode, Genei Taiyou is a dark mahou shoujo title. Among the running themes is how power cannot save everyone and how unfair life can be. LiSa also brings another new favorite OP theme this season in traumere.

Gin no Saji
Episodes Seen: 4
Rating: 8.0/10

It’s about a boy and his adventures in an agricultural school. Bravo to the real-life lessons but more so for the subtle way of putting across through the viewers that this is also about finding one’s dreams. In a world where we can easily be influenced by things around us, sometimes all we need is to step back a little, go back to the basics, and see things in an entirely new way.

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun Second Season
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 8.0/10

I keep saying how much I love this series for the bishies (I am guilty beyond reasonable doubt) but more importantly for having a solid fantasy/adventure plot. In a timely pace, we are unraveling the mysteries behind crimes and identities.

Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou
Episodes Seen: 4 (Dropped)
Rating: 6.0/10

What does it take to write a good story? Apparently, this remains a mystery for this title. I shouldn’t have expected to see as much with the premise of dying for the author whose works he loved only to be reincarnated as her dog.

Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Megami-hen
Episodes Seen: 4
Rating: 7.5/10

Welcome the return of the Capturing God and see him struggle in reviving the Goddesses from his previous conquests. Demons from Old Hell organized as Vintage are out to get the Goddesses before they can finally take over New Hell. Will Keima be able to save the world with his kind of love? It’s no longer a game when lives are on the line… or is it?

The story has been consistent so far with the manga but I am still enjoying this adaptation. Still figuring out which Goddess to root for though.

op_1op_6

Kamisama no Inai no Nichiyoubi
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating:8.5/10

What does it mean to live and to die? Behind the beautiful scenery and art lie questions that Kaminai asks us humans. The first arc’s ending at episode 3 makes it seem that a story has ended. And yet another unfolds and will intrigue you into finding out why a Sunday came without god…

Makai Ouji: Devils and Realists
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 7.0/10

A human that possessed wisdom beyond that of any other. William Twining is said to be the descendant of Solomon who can command demons he made a pact with and select the next ruler of Hell to boot. But to William who only cares about reality, these powers mean nothing at all. What will the demons do now?

Almost halfway through the series and we haven’t had the fair share of the revelations yet. Almost all the main characters have been introduced but it feels like this will be rushed towards the end. Maybe it’s time to move on to the ongoing manga… or was that the whole point of the series after all?

Monogatari Series: Second Season
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 8.0/10

Despite all the unnecessary fanservice, Monogatari’s script is still as admirable as ever. After seeing Nekomonogatari: Black, this White had a satisfying end before we move on to another arc. Black Hanekawa was truly loyal to her mistress and I loved seeing that side of hers.

op_1op_2

Rozen Maiden (2013)
Episodes Seen: 3
Rating: 7.0/10

Shinku is as lovely even in the previous seasons but now she faces a new enemy. We now see Jun of the world that chose not to wind but still ended up being involved in the Alice Game.

op2_1ep18_1

Senyuu 2
Episodes Seen: 4
Rating: 7.0/10

Sadly, the story has not been as interesting as the first season. And I’m still amazed at how many characters this title has so far considering this as a short.

op_1op_2

Servant x Service
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 8.5/10

1 episode and I was hooked. Not only could I relate to the story as I’m a civil servant myself but it is a good series to turn to for some laid back yet enjoyable watch.

op_1op_3

Uchouten Kazoku
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 7.0/10

I’ve always had a penchant for the supernatural genre. Combined with slice-of-life, I thought I’d get another Natsume Yuujinchou. Sadly, I feel that while Uchouten is a unique and refreshing take, I’m bored at the pacing and lack of hype. If not for the little nuggets of wisdom here and there, this would have been dropped from my list. Will try to keep watching this until the end.
