First Look: The World God Only Knows II
Title: The World God Only Knows II
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
Summary: Season 2 of The World God Only Knows
First Look: There isn’t much to say about the second season for The World God Only Knows II if you have already seen the first. I can’t say that it is better than the first since it isn’t finished yet, but I can say the format is exactly the same. However, I have higher hopes for this season than the last because of some of the previews I’ve seen from the opening.
It is common knowledge for anyone who has watched the first season that the opening reveals which girls have loose souls inside them. When I saw the first character I immediately thought “tsundere” to which I was right. Of course I didn’t say anything bad because I absolutely love tsundere girls and this one could be considered a poster child. A martial arts expert who loves cute things but is conflicted because cute things show weakness, what’s there not to love? I’m kind of happy that this one didn’t go like the standard captures from the first season. However, the reason for that was how the soul interacted with its host. It was kind of neat seeing a split personality actually manifest itself. I think what made it better than most others is that Katsuragi didn’t actually do all that much this time. The inner conflict in her heart was resolved by facing her problems on her own instead of needing someone to fix it for her. Although I’m not a huge fan of the supernatural arcs, this one wasn’t bad. I do prefer the ones that are pretty standard romances, but I suppose that would get boring after a while. I mentioned before that the girls he goes after are all revealed in the opening. The one I’m looking most forward to is the teacher arc. Now don’t judge me just yet, give me time to explain. As for now he seems to be only going after girls in his own grade, or at least around his general age. Meeting up or hanging out with them isn’t really out of the ordinary because they are students. However, I’m curious how he will woo the heart of lady when it is considered quite a taboo relationship. Of course the subject of “Is this morally right?” will come up. I’m still curious on how he will find ways to hang out and get to know her with such a touchy romance.
The only complaint I have so far was the fourth episode. The introduction of a new reaper was pretty cool because she seemed to have a very confident attitude. However, that quickly changed when she realized the real world isn’t like school. Soon she turned into a crybaby and started whining about how hard her life is. I’m sorry to say, but people who constantly complain about how hard their life is because they “had to work so hard” are irritating to me. She spent the entire episode saying how she wasn’t so amazing because she had to study to become top of the class. Um… duh? That’s kind of what the point is. People admired you for working hard to become the top. I couldn’t understand what she complaining about and an entire episode of that bothered me. On the plus side, that whole mess seems to have been resolved so hopefully it doesn’t happen again. And hey new female characters! No downside in that.
Final statements: If you liked the first season then pick this one up as well. It seems to offer something new which can go good or bad. My predictions are the second season will be better than the first from what I’ve seen. On watch.
