Summary:The assassination of the head of the Lovelace family in Venezuela sets his maid, a former terrorist named Roberta, on a bloodthirsty quest for revenge at any cost. The search for the culprits leads her to Roanapur, causing a massive commotion in Thailand. Garcia, heir of the Lovelace legacy and someone who regards Roberta as a precious family member, also travels to Roanapur and wants to make a deal with the Lagoon Company.
First Look: Some of you may know from my
Black Lagoon review that I am a huge fan of this series. I have been looking forward to this 5 episode OVA since it was announced. Let us first take note of the amazing title: Roberta's Blood Trail. The title alone screams of a good time for any action, old-fashioned, gun-fight loving viewer. And the first episode just kept it coming. The choreography for the bar scene was refreshing and epic. Introducing a new character to the series that shows signs of gymnastic type fighting was an eye opener. And who could forget the beautiful, rude Revy? You'll all be happy to know that her character hasn't changed a bit. Still rude and roaring for a fight. Sadly, I don't think she will be playing a large role in this season, but I can be mistaken (hopefully). The hard rock soundtrack hasn't changed, and it still gets my heart pumping. I may have been distracted by the girls with guns in the first two seasons, but this short OVA seems to be slightly lower quality in terms of art. Not a big deal, but possibly something someone can help confirm.
Final statements: It is rather obvious that this one is on watch considering I have been looking forward to it for quite some time now. And seeing Roberta’s story may bring something new to the series. If you are a Black Lagoon fan I would suggest picking this up as well. However, you may want to hold off until all episodes have been released because they have long gaps between air dates.
