First Look: Maria Holic Alive
Title: Maria Holic Alive
Genre: Comedy
Summary: Season 2 of Maria Holic
First Look: Now I haven’t given Maria Holic Alive as many episodes as some of my other first looks (ok one less) but I’m pretty sure I know where this is going. Actually I’m almost 100% sure I know where this is going because I watched the first season. For anyone who hasn’t watched the first season I suggest checking it out, it’s a load of laughs. However, if you’re lazy and kind of just want something to watch then picking up the second season isn’t bad either. You might miss a couple of the jokes or be a little lost with the characters, but overall the season is pretty stand alone. Currently there doesn’t seem to be anything different than the first season other than the new (and quite frankly worse) opening. I see what they were trying to do with it, but season’s one opening was phenomenal.
So what can I say about the second season? Sadly nothing all that positive. The real positive thing about it is I get to see some of the best comedic characters again. And some how torching Kanako is still entertaining. Not sure why but it’s just… so… funny. Other than that though it has a couple of the same old gags, but mostly new material. Sad to say the second season doesn’t have the same spark as the first one. I haven’t given it enough time to make a complete judgment but so far I’m a bit let down. That isn’t to say that the series is bad, I just had really high expectation. I don’t know how I expected this season to top the first (there is still time!) but I did. Everything else about it is still amazing like the artwork. I’ll cut myself short before I go on another preaching on how SHAFT is the next best thing since sliced bread. Take my word for it all the good from season one has been migrated over to season two. I’m sure that the jokes will get even better and I can’t wait to see more of it. It is unfortunate that Commie fansubs don’t release as fast as Horrible Subs because I do like their font style better (for this anime). That’s more nit-picky business though. I’ll probably end up watching the series using Horrible Subs and “re-acquire” when Commie releases (or another similar fansub group).
Final statements: Obviously I’ll be keeping it on watch, but for everyone else go check out of the first season if you haven’t! If you have then pick this one up as well (which I wouldn’t be able to understand if you haven’t already). I pretty much see the season getting better rather than worse.
