First Look: Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
Title: Kaichou wa Maid-sama! Genre: Romance, Comedy, Slice of Life
Summary: A romantic comedy that centers on the student council head named Misaki Ayuzawa who despises the mostly male, slovenly population at her school, which was once an all-boys school. However, Misaki's most handsome schoolmate just discovered her secret — that she works afterschool at a maid café. (ANN)First Look: Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is entertaining, but it didn’t strike me as anything unique. It probably is a very stereotypical romance comedy for any fans out there. It could be possible that I have just watched so many romance comedies that nothing really catches me off guard anymore, or strikes me as amazing in this genre, but I still enjoy Kaichou wa Maid-sama!. It is a very simple story, girl is crazy, guy is super fly, and some how they end up in strange situations together. The art style is nothing special, and follows a standard anime art style. The soundtrack currently is only the opening and ending theme, which I tend to skip because it isn’t quite my taste. The characters are well done for this anime, however. I really like the main girl and guy character. Even though I said it is very stereotypical, I still find entertainment in the relationship that is building up between the two. The gags are still funny, and the romantic scenes can still put a smile on my face. One thing that did bug me a little is the lack of support characters. Although Kaichou wa Maid-sama! doesn’t seem to have a need for them, I really feel like it could add more to the story. Currently I don’t see much drama happening. This is great for anyone who doesn’t want to see any tear-jerking moments, but it can also hurt the anime by lacking in the suspense department. Plus, drama usually makes or breaks a character in the viewer’s eyes. I feel that this viewer-attachment is a must for romance comedies.
Final statements: Overall I find this anime a worth while watch. I will keep a tab on it on watch this season. As for whether I feel people should watch it or not… that will have to wait till I submit my final review.
