Darker than BLACK: Kuro no Keiyakusha Gaiden

Title: Darker than BLACK: Kuro no Keiyakusha Gaiden Genre: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi, Supernatural Rating: 9.2/10

Darker than BLACK - Kuro no Keiyakusha Gaiden

Summary: Tells the story of what happened to Yin and Hei between the first and second series.

Review: The reason I gave this very short, 4 episode OVA a higher score than the original series is because  of how important this season really is. If you are a Darker Than Black fan than I cannot imagine that you have not already picked up this season. Despite how short they made it, no expenses were cut. Just like season one and two the fights between contractors were fun. A true adrenaline run to see how Hei will react to new situations. The art style wasn’t sacrificed either. The OVA looked like just like a full season, which may have been the reason the episodes were so spread apart. Personally enjoyed every second of it, and the best part is, the second season was a lot more satisfying to watch afterward. The entire story (especially the ending) of season two fit perfectly with this DTB: Gaiden. In a way, I wanted to compensate the rating I gave DTB: Ryuusei no Gemini, so I bumped up this ones up slightly.

Final statement: Everything was the same as the first and second season in terms of art, hard rock soundtrack, and in-depth story telling. What made this better is the connection it made between season one and two. On top of that, it showed more of the romance between Hei and Yin. Seeing as I am a sucker for a good romance, I couldn’t help but feel satisfied with the whole thing. Any DTB watcher, even those who considered it an average anime, should pick this season up. And if you are considering it picking it up for the first time, watch it n order of season not air date. Must see.
