Winter has usually been one of the weakest seasons. Good thing we have sequels to indulge ourselves with.

Absolute Duo (Dropped)
Episodes Seen: 3
Rating: 6.0/10

The person sitting beside you is your first enemy. A school’s opening ceremony instantly turns into a battle for survival among Heaven’s chosen ones – the Exceed. With a capability to materialize weapons at will, students gather at the Academy to train and develop their abilities. For a magical action series, Absolute Duo has been loyal and adapted even the boring way the plot has been handled.

Aldnoah.Zero 2nd Season
Episodes Seen: 7
Rating: 7.5/10

Engulfed with lies and deceit, the war between Earth and the Vers Empire continues. And so does the conflict between Inaho and Slaine who now fully recognize each other as enemies. Both have lost and gained something in a war that has a lot of their personal interests at stake. Whose wish will be fulfilled by the end?

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu
Episodes Seen: 6
Rating: 7.5/10

An alien threatens to destroy the Earth within a year and it is up to the students from Class E to assassinate the alien who has become their teacher. Boasting of a mach 10 speed, Koro-sensei is also an excellent teacher who can do anything! Is he truly a villain or might he just be the best teacher the class of misfits could ever have? I have not yet read the manga (yes, I am tempted to) but I would like the satisfaction of anticipating each week’s episode.

Dog Days”
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 6.8/10

Heroes Cinque, Rebecca and Nanami continue their adventure in the magical world of Flonyard. Only in Dog Days is there a war with no blood shed… just pure fun because the war is actually a friendship game meant to entertain the citizens. Simply a feel-good series.

Durarara!!x2 Shou
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 7.0/10

Who doesn’t dream of having an extraordinary daily life? Durarara!! attempts to show us that this is possible in Ikebukuro. We have a couple of new characters and new trouble brewing too. This much awaited sequel is still building up and I would love to see the plot unravel as we see the different perspectives of the story from the eyes of the characters.

Isuca (Dropped)
Episodes Seen: 1
Rating: 5.5/10

I don’t usually drop a series with just one episode but that goes to show how bad this is. It’s primary selling point is basically fanservice and characters are but bland stereotypes. And when Isuca has already made blatant digressions from the original material with just one episode, I can’t and don’t want to imagine how else they plan to continue and eventually end the series.

Juuou Mujin no Fafnir

With the emergence of powerful and destructive Dragons, girls with powers have also appeared. The only male with the same power enrolls in a private school that trains and protects humans with these special abilities. With great power comes great responsibility and for Mononobe Yuu, this comes at the price of his memories. Will he be able to protect his comrades (and slowly growing harem) and still be himself when the battle ends?

Nanami has taken another step in fulfilling the role of a land god. Meanwhile, Tomoe finally realizes his true feelings for Nanami. Will these two see eye to eye when Nanami no longer pursues him after her rejection from the last season?

Kuroko no Basket 3rd Season
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 7.5/10

The Winter Cup continues in this 3rd season of Kuroko’s Basketball. Every game is as exciting as ever! And we finally get to see the monstrous abilities of the Captain of the Generation of Miracles. How will each team tackle their biggest challenges yet?

Seiken Tsukai no World Break
Episodes Seen: 5
Rating: 6.5/10

Will knowing your past life affect how you are living in the present? Saviors take advantage of these memories and wield powers and abilities they once had. Moroha has only recently awakened to his memories and conveniently remembers them during crucial fights. The plot was interesting at the onset but each battle becomes predictably in favor of the lead characters. Keeping tabs on this for curiosity’s sake on what kind of ending it will have.

Tokyo Ghoul Root A
Episodes Seen: 6
Rating: 7.0/10

Drama, action, and more drama. With Kaneki leaving what has become his home in order to protect it, he essentially becomes the lonely and tragic hero. I have not yet read the manga from where season 1 ended so I can appreciate the anime for what it is right now.
