I’m kind of sad that I had to drop so many, or skip all together because I simply don’t have enough time to watch anime these days. Thankfully there were plenty of anime this season to keep me going.

I’m dropping this one strictly because of time. I liked the alternate story of Snow White, and the characters were rather enjoyable to watch. I’m not too sure where the series is headed, but I wouldn’t turn anyone against picking it up. In fact, I’m hoping that once my workload dies down a bit I’ll come back to the series. If anyone out there is watching it please keep me updated on your enjoyment for Akagami no Shirayukihime!

Aoharu x Kikanjuu - 01Aoharu x Kikanjuu - 02

Aoharu x Kikanjuu

I’m still a little on the fence about this one because I might just not have enough time to watch it. The positive points are that the battles so far have been pretty good, although rather short, and bits of comedy spliced between the drama give me a good chuckle. The series seems to be building up characters before the big tournament starts, which I’m actually quite happy about. I’ve found anime that splice backstories in the middle of fights to be disengaging, for that Aoharu x Kikanjuu is doing a good job. The biggest problem I have with the series is the fact that the lead had to be a hidden female. Masamune’s  only rule is that he can’t have any female teammates? That seems completely random. However, the opening does lead me to believe that there is more to that than currently revealed. If that’s the case then this series might end up going a little too hard on the tragic backstories. Hopefully I have some time to keep watching this one.

Dropping Chaos Dragon was a hard decision to make, but ultimately it came down to time and my adventure craving being satisfied with Rokka no Yuusha. I won’t really say anything bad about the series since I only watched the first two episodes and wouldn’t mind picking it up when I have some free time. However, for now I’m going to be dropping it this season.

Charlotte - 01Charlotte - 02

Charlotte

My second favorite of the season that I would definitely recommend to everyone. It seems to have a good mix of comedy and drama along with some solid character development. The lead, Yuu, is reason enough alone to pick this series up. He’s an arrogant, lying, cheat that cares more for his own well being than anything else, finally something different! The thing that struck me as the most interesting were the ‘superpowers’ of each of the characters. At first I thought it was going to be the stereotypical powers like invisibility, teleportation, flight, etc. Charlotte decided to give each one a twist, or a flaw to be exact. Invisibility in the eyes of one person, possession for only 5 seconds, and not-so-accurate teleportation are a few examples. Overall the series has been taking all the stereotypes and changing them up just enough to have me wanting more.

I had to drop this one after the first couple episodes. The story and characters just weren’t doing it for me. If a series can’t interest me in finding out the ending with the opening I feel it’s a lost cause.

I’m actually not the biggest fan of this short, but considering they are only a couple minutes long I figured I might as well keep watching them. Nothing much else to say about it.

Gangsta - 01Gangsta - 02

Gangsta

Episodes Watched: 4

Hands down my favorite of the season. I love the fight scenes, insane characters, and atmosphere that the series lets off. I haven’t seen this kind of environment building since Black Lagoon. Each episode gives a peak into the life of Ergastulum. In the first four episodes we’ve seen corrupt cops, prostitution, drug deals, brothels, and territory disputes; everything I’d expect in a city run by gangsters. Gangsta isn’t your typical action anime either. There have been multiple hints at some rather juicy backstory between Nicholas and Worick. Needless to say I’m looking forward to each week just for this series!

GATE - 01GATE - 02

GATE

Episodes Watched: 3

I haven’t watched all the episodes that have been released yet, but I was pleasantly surprised by the first three episodes. My favorite thing about GATE is how they mixed fantasy and reality. To the Japanese military it seems like their enemies are from something out of a book, and to the empire the Japanese seem like an unknown, unstoppable force with mysteries sorcery. The bits of politics sprinkled on top is always a nice touch when involving military.  Though the random political crack at the United States’ president wanting to invade for resources stung a bit. I’ll keep this on watch for the season, and I suggest you pick it up as well.

GOD EATER - 01GOD EATER - 02

GOD EATER

I was pretty scared that I wouldn’t like the heavy use of CGI in GOD EATER, but it turned out to be one of my favorite art styles of the season. They did a great job of mixing the CGI of the characters and weapons with the drawn backgrounds, and it doesn’t have the stiff movements you typically see. Plus it has opened up a lot more room for intense action scenes which is about the only thing I’m looking forward to in this series.

Himouto! Umaru-chan - 01Himouto! Umaru-chan - 02

Himouto! Umaru-chan

Himouto! has given me a few chuckles here and there so I want to continue watching as my comedy fix for the season. Plus the number of gifs that are going to come out of this series is going to be amazing. My biggest worry is that the series will become stale with so few characters and lack of any development. I think a max of twelve episodes is this series lifespan until it needs a season or two break.

Jitsu wa Watashi wa - 01Jitsu wa Watashi wa - 02

Jitsu wa Watashi wa

Episodes Watched: 3

I’m still a little worried that this is going to turn into the harem I anticipated after reading the summary, but the potential is definitely there. The series could easily go in the direction of a true romance. So far I’m enjoying the relationship between Youko and Asahi. Even though she’s a vampire the series revolves more around trust than anything else. However, the Jitsu wa Watashi wa isn’t all great; one character in particular had me on the verge of dropping series completely: Mikan Akemi. I don’t like anything about her; the episode dedicated around her was extremely hard to watch. And spoiler alert: she has a secret she doesn’t want anyone to find out either. Couldn’t at least one of the characters just be … normal? Maybe that’s asking a bit too much in this crazy fantasy world.

After watching the first couple episodes I couldn’t find anything to keep me going with this series. Simple as that.

OverLord - 01OverLord - 02

OverLord

Episodes Watched: 3

I was a bit worried when I read the summary about someone being trapped in a game, but it seemed to just be a quick reasoning for why someone so powerful hadn’t already taken over the world. I don’t think they will ever revisit the fact that he’s trapped, and I don’t really mind that. I’m far more interested in the character development and exploration of the world. I could see myself doing a lot of subconscious comparisons between OverLord and GATE. Currently OverLord sits in the top five of the season for me, and I’m hoping it doesn’t drop below that.

Ranpo Kitan Game of Laplace - 01Ranpo Kitan Game of Laplace - 02

Ranpo Kitan Game of Laplace

Episodes Watched: 4

I was rather taken in by the first couple episodes of Ranpo Kitan because of its dark storyline. Even Yoshio has a rather evil side to him hiding behind a smile. Unfortunately this enjoyment didn’t last long after episodes three and four. The episodes felt rushed and I didn’t much care for the sudden character introductions. The episodes open up with a mysterious new character then the sudden ‘twist’ a few minutes later kills it for me. It left me with an, “Oh, okay” feeling rather than a shock factor. I’m actually seeing this one getting worse as time goes on rather than better. Sad to see my excitement for a horror mystery go unsatisfied yet again.

Rokka no Yuusha - 01Rokka no Yuusha - 02

Rokka no Yuusha

Episodes Watched: 4

As I mentioned earlier Rokka no Yuusha has become my go-to adventure anime this season. Although the story is rather cliché, I’m really liking the characters so far. Adlet in particular is the kind of cocky, trickster that makes for a good change of pace for an anime hero. His attitude of “winning by any means necessary” using his brain rather than brawn is different than most protagonists in action anime. I’m also liking the fact that the heroes don’t fully trust each other just because they were all destined to find the Demon God. Hopefully the series has enough time to really flesh out the characters, because I could easily see Rokka no Yuusha spanning twenty four episodes considering it took four episodes to even get the heroes together.

Sore ga Seiyuu! - 01Sore ga Seiyuu! - 02

Sore ga Seiyuu!

Another anime that I just couldn’t quite find enjoyment in. I don’t think it’s bad, but it’s not good either. The jokes didn’t make me laugh and the amount of moe is a bit over the top for me. It’s unfortunate that I decided to drop all of the slice of life anime this season since it is one of my favorite genres, but nothing much  I can do about that.
